Hi! I’m Hannah Herrick, and I’m an archaeologist! I’m currently a PhD candidate in archaeology at Simon Fraser University. I love to research ancient technology (like plaster, ceramics, and metals), and how people from the past made synthetic materials in their unique environments. My dissertation-in-progress is all about researching lime plaster made in Late Bronze Age Cyprus (and making experimental plaster, too!). Before coming to British Columbia, I earned a M.S. in Geosciences (2018) and a B.S. in Anthropology (2016) from the University of Arizona. I’ve been fortunate to be a part of archaeological research in Cyprus, Sudan, Egypt, New Mexico, and Arizona. Outside of the lab, I love to share my passion for researching ancient peoples and landscapes with adults and children alike–and especially through creating educational content for museums, universities, and social media.

Beyond archaeology, I love a little bit of everything. I live with my spouse, Derek, and our fluffy orange cat, Lucy Goose. If I’m not working on research or drawing, you might find me stitching up a quilt, watering my garden plants, or exploring the forests and beaches of the Pacific Northwest!
