Research

I am currently conducting geoarchaeological research for my dissertation on Late Bronze Age lime production in Cyprus. I am interested in determining the source of raw materials used to produce lime for plasters and mortars at Kalavasos-Ayios Dhimitrios, as part of the KAMBE Project. To do this, I am using petrography, FTIR microscopy, and experimental lime production, with positive results so far.

Thin section in plane polarized light at 20X, showing experimental lime plaster, made in the lab with rock local to Kalavasos-Ayios Dhimitrios, Cyprus.

I am also involved in an environmental archaeology project in Sudan, studying the environmental and climate changes at the Kerma site of Es-Salim R4 in the Northern Dongola Reach. Here, I am focusing on analyzing samples of mudbrick, plaster, hearths, and other materials.
